The sarpaneva and the bravera

Pictured above are the cast iron sarpaneva and the cast iron bravera, respectively.

To me, they look like a pot and a griddle.

The sarpaneva is a 3 quart pot designed in Finland by Timo Sarpaneva, the grandson of a blacksmith. It features a removable wooden handle, that's used to transport the pot from the stove or oven to the table. It's "only" $300.

I can find no information as to why that 9 inch griddle, made by Ikea, is called a "bravera". I guess they made it up.

A consumer reported that the bravera is the perfect size for making tortillas.
